It's been a good year since we started distributing our Maltese products in the Bouches-du-Rhône region, and in Marseille. Caldi Caldi is back in Marseille! For those curious, Caldi Caldi isn't actually called Caldi Caldi, but Pastizzi. It's the most famous snack from our beautiful Maltese islands. The story of Caldi in Marseille begins in North Africa during the colonial era. It arrived with the Maltese, who, upon their arrival, made these little puff pastry turnovers that we love so much. They made these famous Pastizzi and went through the streets shouting "Caldi Caldi, hot, hot!" in Italian. Pastizzi was always sold hot. It became Caldi Caldi. It arrived in Marseille with the Maltese during the exodus of the Pied-Noir community. It was sold all over Marseille. But the ones my customers talk about are Louis's Caldi. And one day, no more Caldi. I can't tell you when I won't be able to. That was back in the '80s. Today, it is with great pleasure and humility that we offer Pastizzi at your local markets in Michelet and Prado (cinema side). Our Caldi and other products are made in Malta in a traditional workshop. Caldi is the DeLorean of Marseille. Come see us, close your eyes, and it's like stepping back in time.
